Protesters Destroy Mutharika’s Statue
Updated: Jun 25, 2019
The Malawi Parliament has dismissed reports awash on social media that protesters in Lilongwe on Thursday damaged the statue of former president late Bingu Wa Mutharika at parliament building.
❌ FAKE STORY ❌
One of the posts shared on both WhatsApp and Facebook alleges that the protesters stormed parliament building and destroyed the statue erected at the premises this year.
But in a statement released on Thursday evening, Assistant Clerk of Parliament Leonard Mengezi described the reports as fake saying the statue remains intact.
“The truth of the matter is that the statue is intact. The general public is hereby advised to ignore the story as it is fake.”
